There’s a trend in blogging that’s been around for quite some time, and that trend would be the “what’s in my bag” post.  It’s pretty straight forward in that the blogger shows you what’s inside their purse.  The unusual thing is their purse contains no trash, snacks or things that make you think WTF is that doing in their bag.  I mean, who’s purse is that clean?

Now, it could just be me.  I really might just be really messy and throw random crap in my purse that spends a ridiculous amount of time chilling in there.  Honestly, I don’t care if I am.  BUT I feel like it needs to be put out there that there’s a least one blogger with lots of trash in her purse (or least wont throw it away before taking photos).  So if you’re ready, I’m ready to share what’s in my bag.

What's really in my bag What's really in my bag

lots of trash // checkbook // dressing room key I forgot to return in February // rubik’s cube // salt and pepper shakers // loyalty cards clipped together // purse // wristlet // pens

Is it bad? At least I laid it all out pretty, it makes it not look so bad right?  I guess I could have thrown out the trash and it wouldn’t look too bad.  Oh well.  I would like to explain my system.  I actually keep two purses in my car.  I keep the brown one shown and a cute large wristlet from Guess.  I use the blue wristlet shown to hold everything I need.  It can hold my phone and I can clip my keys to it.  I rarely go shopping or need my purse for an extended period of time, so the wristlet is more convenient.  When I do need my things with me for longer than a few minutes, I throw my wristlet into the purse or larger wristlet and I’m ready. That is why the things that get put in my purse stay in my purse….forever.

What would we find in your bag?

  • Oh gosh mine is worse than that. Not only do I tons of receipts and old shopping lists crumpled in there, but even some gum wrappers, random paper clips, band-aids (not used!), and packets of mayo that I lift from the condiment bin at fast food restaurants. *hangs head in shame*

    • SomethingWinnderful

I knew I wasn’t the only one! Girl, I totally hoard mayo packets, especially chick fil a’s. When we first moved we were broke(er) so we just took condiment packets from fast food places so we wouldn’t have to buy any haha. Don’t feel any shame, I feel like we’re in the majority when it comes to messy purses, even if people don’t admit it.

  • I’m pretty good about cleaning out my actual purse. I usually carry a large tote, so it’s impossible to find anything if there’s layers of receipts hanging out. In other purses I definitely hoarded receipts, because there was usually a pocket where I could stick them all! They do tend to accumulate inside my wallet, though.

I just have to ask—salt and pepper shakers? What?

    • SomethingWinnderful

Hahaha, the salt and pepper shakers. My mom gave them to me when I was home visiting last fall and I put them in my purse to take back with me. I never take my purse inside so they haven’t made it out yet. I love them so one day they will make it inside, just not today haha. Props to you for keeping your bag clean. Receipts, I think they hurt more than help these days.

  • OK, I kinda love you for this post because I’ve thought the SAME THING. I was like I never want to do a “What’s In My Purse” post because then I have to show all my trash. I’m such a receipt hoarder….like for weeks. I have a problem, but I’m glad to know I’m in good company!

    • SomethingWinnderful

I knew I wasn’t the only one! I’m not sure if I should be ashamed for proud for putting my receipt hoarding self out there, but I’m glad to find I’m not alone.

  • I’m such a sub-par blogger/human adult that I don’t even have a purse I use regularly. I’m guilty of sometimes just carrying a credit card in my back pocket or literally throwing one into the body of a purse. I think maybe if I found a purse I really liked a lot, this might be different. I did recently acquire a wallet that I like and have been using more frequently though (WOO, bonus grown-up points!)

I also use three different bags to lug my laptop around in. Each has an array of receipts, lipsticks, half-eaten packs of gum and miscellaneous charger cords, often for electronics I no longer lose. So three cheers for the honesty going on here! I like it.

See, I’ve gotten into trouble every time I just throw my card and id in my back pocket, I’ve misplaced my license way too many times doing that. Woooo for a wallet! Baby steps. My wristlet has been a lifesaver for me, maybe you’ll find one you love one day. I don’t even want to talk about the bags I carry my laptop and such in. I have a work bag and a dance bag and they’re both worse than my purse.

Since I prefer to carry backpack-like bags with both shoulders, I stuff more items inside and treat the bag like a mini-backpack. That being the case, you’d find a small book, several folders to flatten one side, a small notebook, and everything else [wallet, phone, etc]. I may carry a water bottle inside as well. I don’t know why. I’m just not a big fan of purses due to their default design. :/

    • SomethingWinnderful

I used to carry bigger purses and it was such a bad idea. I might as well have been carrying around a whole trashcan or suitcase with the amount of stuff I would hoard in it. I’m definitely a satchel girl, I would love a cute backpack but I think that would just encourage me to carry around way more stuff than I need.

You just helped me realize that I need to get a wristlet. Plus, thank you for your honesty. I will also probably end up doing said post, and I promise, I won’t throw out my random crap either. Non OCD bloggers unite!

    • SomethingWinnderful

A wristlet will change your life! I was a hot mess until I got a wristlet. Purses were too overwhelming and I am not responsible enough to carry things in my pockets. I’m glad I’ve gotten a good response from this post, the more I post seemingly “negative” qualities the more it shows that they are qualities everyone shares. I’m glad I’m not the only one!

Salt and pepper shakers? This is my favorite “what’s in my bag” post! I love it!

    • SomethingWinnderful

I’m glad you like it! I finally did clean out my purse and my salt in pepper shakers have a new home, it only took 8ish months haha.

  • Ha, the only reason my purse is currently nice and clean is because I finally switched from my pink straw summer purse to my black leather fall/winter purse on Friday. That involved throwing away a lot of receipts I didn’t need. 😉
