Gatsby is now a 1 year old! Our little puppy is not so little anymore! I would like to think we didn’t go too overboard on his birthday. We did a few special things and then I made him a fantastic puppy friendly birthday cake! Carl may or may not have tried it (and enjoyed it) too.
I searched and searched for a good cake to bake for him and finally found a recipe from Big Red Kitchen. I used her recipe for the cake and then made my own icing. I turned out great and only used four ingredients! I bought Gatsby a party hat to where while eating his cake and at first he would not let it happen. Once he realized he was going to get cake, he didn’t care about the hat anymore. I also made a cupcake version of this cake, be on the lookout for it soon!
Pumpkin Puppy Cake With Banana Peanut Butter Icing
- Yellow Cake Mix
- 100% Pumpkin Puree
- 2 Ripe Bananas
- Roughly 1/2 to 3/4 Cup Peanut Butter
- Mix cake mix and pumpkin puree together.
- Pour into baking dish (any size) and bake for 20-30 minutes based on dish size.
- For the icing, mash together banana and peanut butter and ice over cake.
I didn't measure how much banana or peanut butter I used, I just through added bit by bit until I had the right amount and consistency.
However you put the batter in the pan is how it will cook. It wont rise or smooth out, leaving it a little rough at the top will help keep icing on.
You can use any baking dish, I used a loaf size dish and a cupcake tin. Once you can stick a knife in them and have it come out clean they are ready to come out of the oven.
