Hey there! Posting has dwindled down since we moved into our new house, so I thought it would be good to touch base. I wanted to share what’s been happening and what will be happening.
We’ve settled into our house
It took longer than I expected to get completely moved into the house. We closed on July 15th and our lease lasted until August 3rd. We definitely needed all of that time to move. So far everything is technically put away. I wouldn’t say every room is organized to my liking, but there’s no more boxes waiting to be unpacked. I assumed it would take a long time to figure out the best way to organize things and it’s looking like that’s how it’s gonna be.
We got charged an exorbitant fee after moving from our apartment
I’m talking $2500. I’M NOT EVEN KIDDING. About two thirds of that amount was a charge for breaking our lease. Kinda bullshit, since the apartment would be filled within a few weeks of us moving out…but they put it in leases so you can’t do anything about it. The rest is because they decided to replace 100% of the carpet and charge us for it. They didn’t charge us for cleaning, they just replaced all of it and charged us the full amount. Turns out they don’t do cleaning or spot treatment. I regret not taking more of an effort to do a deep cleaning prior to turning in the keys, but oh well.
We finally have a new computer!
I’m currently typing my post on it right now! It’s so crazy how much better this computer operates compared to my laptop. Considering my laptop was super old, I guess I shouldn’t be so surprised. I highly recommend getting the mac mini and connecting it to a computer monitor or tv. (We connected ours to a spare tv, it’s awesome.) It’s much cheaper than getting a full Mac system and it works exactly the same.
Carl starts nursing school next week
I feel like it’s been a lifetime of waiting for Carl to start nursing school. When we started dating he was just starting to reapply to college and figure out what he wanted to do. Within the first few months of dating he decided on nursing and it is such a good fit for him. From that moment on he’s gotten his Patient Care Technician certification and somehow managed to work full time all while going to school full time. This summer he finally finished all of his pre-requisites and was accepted into the nursing program. Eighteenish months from now Carl will be a Registered Nurse! I will weep all the tears when we accepts his diploma.
We officially have a compost
It’s something I’ve wanted for a while and it’s finally set up! We went with an indoor worm system that can be added on to. I had no idea you can order worms from Amazon, but I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. Altogether it cost about $125 for everything we need and it’s helped us cut down on food waste significantly and it’ll provide us with awesome soil for our garden. Totally worth it. Below is a photo from Instagram that shows the exact compost bin we got and how our worms came.
I’ve only killed one plant
One cactus has bit the dust, but everything else is going strong! In my defense though, that cactus was struggling when we bought it. I have managed to start a pineapple plant by using the top of a pineapple we ate. I tried the same with an onion…but Mumford ate it. At least I’m assuming she’s the culprit. I planted the onion in a pot and a few days later there was nothing but a little hole. I even managed to bring my Oregano back from death. I wouldn’t go so far as to say I’ve developed a green thumb, but it’s getting better.
We’re going to a Packer’s game
On November 8th, Carl’s life will officially be complete. I practically sold a kidney and bought us two tickets to go watch them play against the Panthers in Charlotte. We were already going to be in Charlotte the day before for another event, plus it’s the Packers, so there was no way Carl wasn’t going to be at that game.
That about sums things up for now
It’s been pretty busy and we’ve been doing our best to soak in every moment. I’ve been slacking on the blogging because my computer wasn’t functioning well, but I think if I’m completely honest, I was just enjoying being disconnected. Now that we have this fancy computer I’m definitely going to working a little bit more on this ‘ole blog of mine, but I think I’m going to keep a lot of it behind the scenes until the end of the year. I have a lot of projects I want to work on and I think cranking out posts five times a week won’t be the best use of my time for me or for you all.
