Hello everyone!  Today was going to be another apartment tour post but a last minute trip out of town derailed picture taking.  Carl needed to make a list minute trip to take care of some things with school (he transferred colleges this summer) and with his old apartment (he was subletting to a friend) so we hopped in our car and took a trip.  We were able to get all his errands done and catch dinner with old friends.  When we made it back home it was late so we just pulled out our sleeper mattress and watched some Netflix before passing out in front of the tv.  Needless to say, we made a mess while posting up camp in the living room. But it’s something we love to do when we don’t have work the next day.  We can stay up late watching movies and just pass out when we want.  Plus the mattress is large enough for Gatsby to relax with us.

So instead of a tour post, I want to talk about something else.  How to work out when you really don’t want to. Sometimes (maybe all the time) going to the gym is just the last place you want to go.  I can’t blame you.  I don’t know if it’s because we have a bed in front of our tv now or what, but I’m not feeling like moving today. However, we all know how important it is to live a healthy active life.  So today I thought I’d share some sneaky ways to get some exercise.

How to exercise when you really don't want to

Go to the mall.  Say what?! Yes.  Go to the mall.  Unless you’re a mall cop who gets a nifty Segway, the only way to get around the mall is walking.  Wear some comfy shoes, use the MapMyRun app, and get to walking the mall.  Try taking a tour through all your favorite stores before you pick stuff up to try on.  Then go back and try everything you like on.  Maybe wait until a third trip around to actually buy what you picked out.  That many laps around the mall will burn some calories AND probably help you save money.  Taking the time to see everything and try it all on will help you decide what you really want.

Clean your house/apartment.  People really underestimate how many calories cleaning can burn.  Let me tell you, it takes a lot of effort to scrub a tub clean.  Add cleaning all the floors, wiping down counters and dusting everything and you’ve got a respectable amount of calories burned AND a clean home.

Do it during commercials.  Commercials are the worst part of the tv watching experience, with the exception of the Super Bowl.  Use them to sneak in some exercise.  Most commercials are 30 or 60 seconds, so do a different exercise for each commercial.  For example, do jumping jacks for one commercial, lunges for another, plank hold for another.  When the commercial break is over, crash back on the couch until the next break.  It may not be a hardcore gym workout, but even short workouts count.

Walk your dog.  Even if you don’t have a dog, take a walk.  It’s not a strenuous workout, but fresh air and some movement do a body good.

Do the exercise version of the movie drinking game.   I know I’m not the only person who has played the “drink every time you see _______, every time you hear ____________, every time the main character ___________” drinking game.  Do you own exercise version of the game.  I’ll use How I Met Your Mother for example.  Every time Barney says, “wait for it,” do 25 jumping jacks.  Every time Lily meddles in someone else’s life do a 30 second plank.  Every time there is a Canadian references do 25 crunches.  It’s a win win situation.  You get to watch a show you like and you get some exercise done.  Plus, literally every tv show and movie has been turned into a drinking game, just google it and replace drinking with whatever exercise you like.

There’s some not so sneaky ways to getting some exercise!  I hope this helps you out when you’re feeling especially unmotivated!
