Freezer meals sound like a gift from God, but then you look at the recipes and it seems like they are all soups or something that you just don’t believe can taste good. Obviously I’m a bit skeptical of freezer meals, but I’ve recently decided to try out a few and I must admit they really are great. I don’t really like soups, stews or anything liquidey, but I’ve tested a select few with great results.
It’s time to start a new series on the ole blog! Reading other blogs and news stories about people producing little to no waste has gotten me feeling pretty bad with how much we throw away. Especially when it comes to food. Did you know roughly one third of the food produced in the world for human consumption every year — approximately 1.3 billion tonnes — gets lost or wasted? Every year, consumers in rich countries waste almost as much food (222 million tonnes) as the entire net food production of sub-Saharan Africa (230 million tonnes).
Since Vegan Fest was incredibly motivating and quite a reminder of the prevalence of animal abuse, I decided to explore the idea of being vegetarian. I’ll be honest, I love meat. I know, I know, technically we failed the Whole 30. However, we did shop solely Whole 30 at the grocery store for a few weeks (and you can see how we prepared here). One of the main excuse people use to avoid the Whole 30 (including me) is they can’t afford it. And let’s be honest, the dollar menu is cheaper than real food.
