In case you are super brand new, you know my “word of the year” is less. Now I’m going to be honest, I haven’t been super intentional with my focus on less. I’m pretty pleased that it’s been happening on its own, even with my complete lack of commitment. My most recent (mostly intentional) usage of less has been with technology. You might have noticed the blog has been a little quieter than normal, and while unintentional, it’s been (secretly) enjoyed.
I have been trying to focus more on being focused with my attention, particularly at home. I’ve noticed Carl and I have the tendency to sit together on the couch with the TV on with both of us using our phones or laptop. Romantic, right? I’ve been working to only have my laptop open if I’m actually using it for a specific task such as writing a post.
It became pretty easy to not be on my laptop. It helped that we had a lot of things happening these past few weeks. Kristin visited, my family visited, Carl’s car broke down, we got a puppy, then said puppy had to have minor eye surgery. It’s been a roller coaster but it’s been wonderful. You don’t realize how much more connected you feel to life when you’re not experiencing it through a device.
It has been a little stressful because Sprout + Co. has been delayed. My computer now runs super slow when doing formatting so it takes nearly an hour to move 1-2 paragraphs around. It’s a nightmare and its days are very sadly numbered. Even so, I think it’s been good to disconnect from it all and not force myself to sacrifice offline time for the sake of a project I created for fun anyways. I always say your blog is your blog, if you don’t want to post, you don’t have to.
That said, instead of doing a perfectly formatted and social media friendly post, I’m just gonna post a picture or two and go to bed. Because right now, I’m enjoying going to sleep as early as I want and not forcing myself to stay up for the sake of the perfect post. I’m also enjoying cuddling with TWO cute doggies instead of one.
