Hello again! I’m STILL galavanting around Wisconsin, hopefully not falling off tandem bikes or eating cheese curds. If you want to see what all I’ve been through up here, hop on over to my Instagram. But before you do that, read this wonderful post from Jessica of Beyoutiful Beauty. It’s a great one!
Hello there! My name is Jessica and I blog over at Beyoutiful Beauty. Today I’m guest posting for Katie and discussing beauty, which, as you guessed it, is the main theme of my blog. There’s been a lot of hype in the media and different blogs lately concerning beauty with the no makeup selfie challenge, Colbie Caillat’s new music video and ad campaigns featuring no retouched images. In light of all of that, and perhaps just as a reminder to us all, I wanted to talk about the things that make me feel beautiful. I know we should feel beautiful all the time, since we are beautiful all the time, but when I do certain things, I feel especially beautiful in that moment. So here are the top five things I do that make me feel especially beautiful:
This one is pretty darn simple and very effective: just smile! We all get down on ourselves or are just in a bad mood from time to time, so fake it til you make it by smiling. You may be surprised by how good you feel even after fake smiling, so try it! I feel like my whole face lights up when I smile or laugh, and I really love that quality about myself. Even if I don’t see myself in a mirror when I smile, I can feel happiness spreading throughout my body, and I can’t help but feel more beautiful. Try it! 🙂
Dancing like there’s no tomorrow
This makes me sound like such a nerd, but I just don’t care. I love having mini dance parties in my apartment with just me, my iPhone on shuffle and my headphones. I never know what song will play next, so it could range from songs from Frozen to Iggy Azalea to The Lonely Island to Jessie J to Jack Johnson to Buckcherry and everything in between. There’s just something about dancing and going crazy that is very freeing. Whether you’re feeling stressed or bored or mad or happy or sad, there’s always a reason to dance. And when it’s just you and your music, it doesn’t matter if you’re a world-class ballroom dancer or if you have no rhythm at all. It’s all about doing what makes you happy, and I always feel beautiful when I’m doing something that makes me happy. I may look like a total fool, but no one else has to know that haha.
Putting on makeup
I know that putting on makeup is not a priority for everyone, and that’s totally fine. If you don’t want to wear makeup, then don’t! You shouldn’t feel pressure to do something you don’t want to do. I personally really enjoy putting my makeup on in the morning and thinking about what kind of look I want to convey each day. While it is nice to cover up any blemishes or dark circles I may have, it’s also fun to play up my green eyes with fun pops of eye shadow or add some bronzer to make my pretty pasty complexion look a little warmer. Makeup makes me feel beautiful because I get to further enhance areas of my face that I already like, so what’s not to like about that? This isn’t to say that I wear makeup every day or I feel ugly when I don’t wear makeup, but there’s just something about sitting down to do my makeup in the morning that makes me feel beautiful because I’m in control of what I want to emphasize or hide about myself. Talk about power!
Driving with the windows down
I wish I could do this all year round, so I definitely try to take advantage of warm summer days to drive with my windows down. I swear there is nothing better after a long day of work than to roll down your windows and drive home with the wind blowing your hair and good music pouring out of the speakers. Whether I’m belting out a heartfelt rendition of “All of Me” by John Legend or rocking out to “Happy” by Pharrell, I’m always having a good time. I feel beautiful because I’m combining two of my favorite activities that make me feel beautiful: smiling and dancing like there’s no tomorrow (except maybe with a bit more caution since I am driving). I know that I look silly sometimes, but I just don’t care! I’m having a ton of fun, and that makes me feel really beautiful.
While this is pretty different from the other activities mentioned in this list, it is a passion of mine so I can’t help but feel beautiful when doing something I love. There are a lot of scholarly women in my family, so reading and writing have always been big parts of my life. Whether I’m writing a new blog post or a letter for work, I truly enjoy what I’m doing. Even if an assignment is particularly challenging, I’m just happy as a clam as long as I’m writing or editing something. My boyfriend has mentioned this to me a few times if he sees me writing on my laptop at night; he just notices something different about me and my face lights up in a different way because he can tell I’m doing something I love. I’m very grateful to have found something that I love this much, and that makes me feel truly beautiful.
I just want to give a big thanks to Katie for letting me guest post on her blog today! I had a lot of fun writing this post, and I want to know about you guys now: what makes you feel beautiful?
